Does my smartphone support 4G LTE network? That’s what I hear from some individuals. W are all excited about the 4G trend in Nigeria telecommunication industry. First, it was MTN 4G LTE launch, followed by Glo 4G LTE, and more recently Etisalat joined the 4G LTE network providers — Smile, ntel, interC, Swift, andSpectranet.
Whether you own an Android smartphones, Blackberry, iPhone, or a Windows mobile devices, you need to know if your smartphone support for 4G LTE network. Maybe you are are planning to buy a new device, without the right information on what 4G-enabled device to buy, you may just miss it.
For starters, 4G LTE is a mobile telecommunications technology that provides high-speed data connectivity to data enabled devices. So if you thought the 3G network on your mobile device was fast, wait till you try browsing on a 4G mobile network.
So when purchasing or exchanging your old phone for a new smartphone, you will need to make sure it has supports 4G LTE network. To do this, ask for a 4G LTE-enabled smartphone that runs on band 800/1800/2100/2600MHz frequency. This is because GSM Networks operate LTE services on different band frequencies.

4G LTE Network: Know Your Smartphone

With 4G mobile networks in mind, it’s easy to know if your smartphone supports the 4G LTE standard.

4G LTE Network on Android

For Android users, go to settings >> Network settings >> mobile network. It should give you a drop-downmenu of mobile standards such as 2G, 3G or LTE (4G). If you don’t see 4G or LTE, then your smartphone doesn’t support the standard.

4G LTE Network on iPhone

On the iPhone, go to Settings > General > cellular > Enable 4G LTE.

4G LTE Network Windows

On Windows Phone, go to Settings > Celluar + Sim > Highest connection speed and check if LTE is part of the options.

4G LTE Network Blackberry

Go to settings>>Network and Connection>>Mobile Network>> Network mode and you’ll see 4G&3G&2G. however, if you are using Blackberry Q5 and below, you won’t get 4G network services.
Once you’ve selected LTE and you’re on a 4G network, the “LTE” symbol will appear on the phone status bar replacing either “3G”, “H” or “2G” symbols.

Submit data and details of your phone’s band, 4G LTE eligibility status will be displayed to you.

Supported Band Frequencies of 4G LTE Networks in Nigeria

  1. NTEL supports band 3(1800) and 8(900)Mhz
  2. MTN 4G supports band 7(2600MHz)  and 20 (800MHz)
  3. Glo 4G supports band 28 (700MHz)
  4. Etisalat 4G supports LTE band 3 (1800)MHz
Therefore to use 4G LTE Network, you’ll need to buy a phone that supports the LTE Bands listed above.
